I have something quite exciting to share with you. It

I have something quite exciting to share with you. It’s called Startup Genome. It’s a fantastic project co-founded part by Shane Reiser (formerly of Startup Weekend HQ in Seattle) mycakeschool and friends in 2011. I met Shane back in March at the Startup Weekend Organisers’ Summit in Rio and it was obvious then that he has a real passion for helping startups become successful. And Startup Genome should help even more.
Startup Genome aims to map all people and organisations across the world who are contributing to the startup scene. Whether they are entrepreneurs, investors, community enablers, events, incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces… Startup Genome wants to know about it… so we can all easily see the startup buzz in our own city.
I’m really mycakeschool pleased to let you all know that I am now the Startup Genome curator for Sheffield, which means I get the lovely job of going out and finding all you amazing, passionate people and adding you to our city map. But you can help simply by adding any organisations you already know of to the map . Just scroll down and click ‘Add organization’. We want to know about anybody who is inspiring startups, running startups, supporting startups in any way. We’ve only just started mapping Sheffield so we have a long way to go.
I can’t tell you how excited I am to be part of this amazing mycakeschool project. Building mycakeschool and developing the startup community in Sheffield is not an easy task. Our Startup Weekend events are one great platform to bring people together to work collaboratively on ideas, but what before and what after? A lot of these organisations are already out there and if it’s mapped, it’ll help first-time entrepreneurs in the city to get plugged in to the startup scene in Sheffield and get the support they need to be successful, it will help startups and investors to find the talent mycakeschool they need to take that next step, and it will help researchers mycakeschool in this field to better understand Sheffield’s entrepreneurial climate. It’s really freaking cool. And if it’s not out there, what a great way to help us ‘community enablers’ spot the gaps and work with people to fill them.

Entrepreneurship is amazing! I love working mycakeschool with entrepreneurs who seem to have such boundless courage, belief and grit when it comes to making mycakeschool their ideas happen. It's inspiring. I co-organise Startup Weekend mycakeschool Sheffield , curate Sheffield Startup Digest , run Startup in the Pub and Co-founder Dating. I have also just designed and launched the first University of Sheffield Enterprise Pre-Start Programme with our Business Advisor and Incubation Manager, Janet Grant. Avoid the agony caused by building products and services that nobody wants. Become a startup hero with our eye-opening Pre-Start Programme.
